Soundtrack: Ballad of the Grey Swan

I’d really intended for this to come out sooner, but I got distracted by a lot of things. But here we are, the Soundtrack for the Ballad of the Grey Swan!  Let’s go doing some diving!

Ballad of the Grey Swan: The Soundtrack

  1. In The Air Tonight (Bardcore) – Joseph C. Phaze
This is playing as Jey is riding Pond towards the confrontation with the bounty hunters. It’s got that whole feeling of “someone isn’t walking away from this tonight”, which is what I wanted to have in that scene.
  2. Holding Out for a Hero – Hildegarde von Blingin’ and Whitney Avalon
On the other hand, this is playing as Maisie is riding Lord Lassarodh to the same confrontation. Someone’s gonna have a really bad night and now that she has the ability to do something about things, it’s her time to stop being the waiting maiden and starting being a heroine in her own right.
  3. Thunderstruck – Middle Ages
…as the firehawk screams, this plays.
  4. Enjoy the Silence – Joseph C. Phaze
This one is actually diagetic! In the story, it’s the song that the bard in the tavern is playing as Jey arrives, the first time we see Maisie and how the barkeep’s daughter affects the entirely-too-overworked Jey.
  5. Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) – Bardcore
This is playing over the scene where Maisie makes her deal with the Prince of Fireflies. The Prince is a Prince of the Faerie, not a god, but she chose the deal, and neither Jey nor Maisie are entirely sure what it means.
  6. Viva la Vida (Orchestral Female Version) – Annapantsu
This is a song for the Baron. He’s a weak man, and a failure at so many things, and lost so much. When his wife died in childbirth – due to his own foolishness at dismissing the healer that lived in the manor – he had one moment of total comprehension of what he’d done, and that he lost his world. He honestly and truly loved her, and now he refuses to allow her name to be spoken where he can hear it. Not completely noted is the fact that she was the source of his successes – the diplomat he wasn’t, the smiling face smoothing things over. And with her death, things just collapsed for him.
  7. Star Wars: Duel of the Fates (Medieval Style) – Samuel Kim Music
This would play twice. Once in the duel between the brothers, and then again for the duel between Jey and Zaelar. Jey takes both these duels very seriously, even if only the fight with Zaelar is a matter of life and death.
  8. The Three Musketeers, “You Should Have Apologized To My Horse” – Paul Haslinger
This is the song over the end of the main story. They reach the border-stone, and as they ride past it and away, we get to the triumphant fanfare at 1:23.

There we go: the soundtrack. I may try to do another one soon, with music for Jey and Maisie.
