Greetings, friends.
I’ve rearranged the site a little bit, to take into account a few things.
First, my next book, Fiendblood, is almost done, so I need to prep for the marketing and sales of that one! It’s also set in the world of Taeliana, so instead of Ballad of the Grey Swan being in the menu bar, I’ve put in a link to the new top level pages for the Chronicles of Taeliana, the overarching title for all the books set in that world of my own creation.
Secondly, speaking of sales, I opened up a store on my site. Right now, it just sells the ebook editions of Ballad of the Grey Swan, but that’ll probably change in the future.
As to why I put up my own store…
There’s been a bit of a kerfuffle in the world lately, with a bunch of nutbars complaining about media available for sale. While they’ve been complaining mostly about games with content they object to (and I will be honest, I don’t think the one they started with was a good idea to create at all, but they’ve gotten a lot of stuff hit with the scatter), they’re poking at itch.io, which is a location I have my first book for sale on. I’m wondering, as well, when they might start complaining about books on, say, Amazon, then spreading to other ebook sellers.
These people really want to eliminate anything that’s not fairly vanilla and cishet from society, based on their religious beliefs. And that’s not what I write. So if I want to sell something, I may have to do it myself, and thus, I am proactively setting up my store. It also allows me to arrange for other things I may want to sell without having to hope I can find someone else. Finally, it means that I don’t pay them a cut of my proceeds, or have to wait for a minimum amount of money paid for a payout, or wait 60 days past the end of the month, or any other kind of weirdness.
It might be a little silly and kind of strange, but this lets me have control over what I do more than before. And it’s an experiment! If it turns out to not work out, well, so be it. I tried.
If writing two books has taught me anything at all, it’s that I need to keep trying to maybe get the things I want.
Thank you!
